A Global Collaboration
Since 1997
Earthdance is the world's largest synchronized music
and dance festival for peace. Since its inception,
Earthdance has been held on over 500 locations in 80
countries with all events simultaneously joining
together in the Prayer for Peace - a powerful moment
of coherent intention. Each public earthdance event
gives 50% of their profits to a charity that falls
into one of the following categories:
- -The Welfare of Children & Urban Youth
- -Indigenous Peoples & Cultures
- -International Relief and Development
- -Environmental Sustainability & Protection
- -Organizations that help Promote Peace
Earthdance occurs
annually every September in recognition of the
United Nations International Day of Peace with the
intention to build a Culture of Peace.
In Aabyhoej, Denmark we
have been a part of EARTHDANCE since 2004.
Earthdance
was conceived in 1996 by artist/musician Chris Deckker,
as a vision to unite the whole world through the
universal platform of dance and music. Earthdance has
now become the largest global synchronized dance event
in the world.
What began in 1997, with 22 cities in 18 countries has
now occurred in over 360 locations with 340 locations in
57 countries participating in 2006 alone! Rising out of
the global electronic music scene, Earthdance has now
grown to include a diverse cross-section of musical
genres including world music, jazz, conscious hip-hop,
folk and reggae.
Earthdance has shown how the potent combination of music,
dance and technology can be harnessed for positive and
humanitarian aims. For one night all around the globe,
people join together to dance as one global community,
united with a common vision for peace and humanitarian
aims.
Every year, Earthdance continues to grow in volume and
scope. This year we are gearing up to include as many
people on the planet as possible through a number of new
initiatives and by making the Prayer for Peace track
available to everyone.
The Mission
Our mission is to promote peace by joining
participants worldwide in a synchronized PRAYER FOR
PEACE and to support humanitarian causes through the
global language of music and dance.
The Goal
Our goal is to inspire participation from promoters,
clubs, artists, musicians and peace-lovers worldwide to
dedicate one day to support humanitarian efforts and
help unite people from all nations in a day of peaceful
celebration and harmony. This year we are expanding the
circle to include anyone interested in world peace, even
if you can't make it to an official event.
The Objective
Our objective is to create as many Earthdance events
around the world as possible. From public stadium
concerts to private living room gatherings, there are no
conditions on how big or small an event has to be. The
spirit of Earthdance is participation on whatever level
possible.
In the spirit of "Think Global, Act Local," each local
promoter must donate at least 50% of their profits to a
local charity related to one of the following categories:
• The Welfare of Children & Urban Youth
• Indigenous Peoples
• International Relief and Development;
• Environmental Sustainability & Protection
• Organizations that help Promote Peace
Each promoter also commits to include that charity in
their event by giving them space to display information,
and time to speak at the event. To find out more about
becoming a promoter, please visit our public events
page.
If you want to participate, but do not feel that putting
on a public event is for you, please consider having a
private event with your friends and family.
